Stereotypical Women (oh, and the real kind too)

We've all seen it in movies, youtube, TV, you name it. As long as it's modern visual media, its there. Women are portrayed in about four different ways. You have the dumb blondes, the control freaks, the way-too-obssesed-with-guys, and the more minor role of the friend who gives terrible advice.

The dumb blondes, well, they are dumb, and, well, they are blonde. That pretty much explains their entire psychology (or psychosis depending on who you talk to). Their life consists of leeching off others for money and support, shopping, driving worse than a drunk, and looking in the mirror to see if they need more makeup. Why does hollywood love to give us this character all the time and where in the heck did it come from? Honestly, everyone hates them in movies. They are so annoying! In my humble opinion I believe that this stereotype of women is the last bit of womanhaingness (or whatever you call it) that is hanging on for dear life in this nation.

Control freaks. Oh where do I begin? If the dumb-blonde character is the remanent of chauvinism in America, the Control freaks are a taste of the annoying feminists. This is the character who bosses around her husband because, well, he's retarded and can barely tie his own shoes. This is the character who feels the need to compete with just about everyone on the block because its just the thing to do. Once again, no one likes this kind of character; its just too annoying.

The relationship-fixators are next: the character that cannot stop talking about men. This one may actually be quite normal besides her obsession over being in a harmful relationship that always leaves her scarred, but she just keeps cycling through guys because she just knows that the next guy is the one despite the fact that the only reason she started dating him was because #1 he was extremely attractive, or #2 he was the bad-boy character. Its annoying. This one came up in media because women in general want to find a great guy to settle down with and hollywood loves to exaggerate everything and turn it into an irritating mess.

Lastly we have the idiot friends. Alright, this group isn't so prevalent as the others (as far as I know), but they are there. In short, this character is usually the friend of the way-too-obssesed-with-guys chick in the movie and just keeps encouraging to be with the guy who wears the leather jacket. Sure, he got in a bar fight just because some guy looked at him funny, but he's cool right? Right? This is a usual conversation between the relationship instigator (our idiot friend), and the other chick. : Other Chick: "Hey Joan, I've been thinking of going out with Tom." Instigator: "Heck yes Martha! He's over six feet tall, carries a gun wherever he goes, and has only been to prison twice! Its a no brainer!" As you can see, its pretty, um, annoying.

So where does this lead us to then? Well, these examples show us that the real women that we know aren;t usually like this (there are some exceptions). Just because someone you know is a chick doesn't mean she fits one of these steryotypes. Chances are she's actually pretty cool and you should get to know her. No but really, no person has the same personality and it isn't fair for hollywood to show women in this light. Not just is it annoying, but its outright false.
